The Emotional Freedom Techniques (plural) are known as "EFT". The primary and main part of EFT is known as the "tapping technique". There are also some other techniques (each one having a special-purpose such as resolving a painful memory), but each one of them includes and uses "the tapping technique."
The fundamental part of EFT is the tapping (with finger tips) on some specific >acupressure points. The tapping is not hard to learn and doesn't hurt. Plus, there is a lot more to EFT than just the tapping.
EFT includes tapping on (stimulating) some specific acupressure points while the person/client is tuned into a particular emotion or feeling or memory or worry or problem or similar. What is currently being "tapped on" is usually or often what is present or coming up now (such as currently feeling anxious about something).
During a session, it is usual to establish how intense a particular emotion/feeling/issue/other is now (on 0 up to 10) before the tapping begins, and then check it afterwards to monitor progress or changes. This is done fairly frequently in a session. When an emotion or feeling or sensation reduces to zero, quite often another one spontaneously "comes up", which can then also be "tapped on."
Usually, a long-term issue or problem is made up of a group of related parts known as the aspects of that problem, which are the pieces or parts that together make up that particular problem. Some issues only have one or a few aspects (even when it's existed for a long time). However, there are usually some issues that have lots of aspects that have been accumulated over long periods (and need to be untangled and resolved).
The basic theory of EFT is that the tapping technique helps the person to reduce a negative emotion or feeling or similar by clearing the unresolved blockages accumulated by the person (and been carried around for months, years or decades). There are also some different and/or additional theories these days regarding why EFT works so effectively.
The basic EFT tapping technique is not complicated and it can often be learnt and understand enough within one or two hours. Most people are able to get started and can self-apply it successfully. And, of course, it can also be used to help others when you have practiced and learnt enough (such as by attending an introductory EFT workshop or being taught by an EFT practitioner). It's worth doing and learning because you can then roll up your sleeves and get to work.
Used correctly, EFT is a very effective tool that has the potential to help resolving emotional issues and thereby improve the quality of our lives and enhance our performances and expand our comfort zones. EFT has many uses. It is very much a valuable tool to have for the journey of life as it supports and enhances our personal growth and development.
There is a series of EFT workshops (outlined below) starting with beginners. Some may ONLY want enough for their own self-applications of EFT and there are those who also want to help others with EFT (but not professionally). Plus, there is more training for those who want to get good or really good at it, and also, there are some others who want to go a lot further and become experienced EFT practitioners. It's a step by step process - and lots of fun!
The Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) are remarkably flexible and effective. Personal one-on-one sessions with experienced EFT practitioners are available AND there are also EFT workshops (from beginner to advanced and on to professional) for those who want to learn EFT.
Once learnt, the relatively simple EFT tapping technique can be self-applied.
EFT can effectively address things like negative feelings or emotions, limiting beliefs, personal worries, painful memories, and more. It is sometimes used to lessen physical pain or discomfort and has a surprising success rate in that context. The motto of EFT is to "try it on everything" as it's been effective with a wide variety of issues.
EFT includes: tapping on (stimulating with finger tips) some specific acupressure points while (at the same time) tuning into (i.e. being mindful of) a selected emotion (or feeling, issue OR memory) and also saying or expressing how it feels all the way through, which helps a lot and often results in measurable progress.
An important part of EFT is the client being tuned in with what is currently being "tapped on" which helps the client to become more present, more "in the now". This also helps to reduce or eliminate a client's negative "mind chatter" (which occurs when a person becomes more present).
Useful changes are often experienced. However, some issues require systematic persistence and repeated applications of EFT to get results or lasting results. This is especially the case when an issue is long-term and/or complex, where there have been many contributing factors that have "stacked up" over the years (and, now need to be unstacked).
When having a one-on-one private EFT session with an experienced EFT practitioner, therapist or coach, participation by the person having the session is very important. An EFT session is very much a team activity. In fact, the client is actually doing his/her own emotional healing with the help and guidance of the EFT practitioner, whose role is primarily to guide, facilitate and support the client to connect with and evoke one or more natural healing processes.
The basic EFT tapping technique is fairly easy to learn (usually within two hours) and it is easy to use. A simple version can be learnt in a private session with an EFT practitioner/coach/therapist and/or learnt more comprehensively by doing a full one-day introductory EFT workshop. From then on, EFT can be used when something like a current negative emotion, feeling or worry pops up or is encountered in life or during a session.
Important: A useful analogy in the EFT world is to liken a problem to "a forest" that is made up of "trees". The "trees" of a problem are referred to as the "aspects" (or components or contributors) that together make up that problem. Some forests have many more "trees" than others. Some problems only have one or a few "aspects" or contributing factors and may be very easy to resolve. Whereas, at the other extreme, some issues or realities are complex, long-term and multi-layered (which was stacked up over the years).
The concept of aspects is very important and very useful. EFT practitioners know and understand this and are trained to accept the reality of a particular complex issue, roll up their sleeves and systematically get to work with the client (or themselves if personal).
As mentioned above, EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques (plural). The basic EFT tapping technique can be used all by itself (and often is) AND the EFT tapping technique is also a part of some special-purpose EFT techniques (of which, there are a number).
For example, the "Movie Technique" is one of the EFT special-purpose techniques that is used to resolve a painful memory. When the Movie Technique is being used, each negative emotion or feeling or reaction (each one being a part of that particular painful event) "gets tapped on" separately (using the basic EFT tapping technique each time) to reduce the intensity of each emotional part of the event, until there is no intensity left. It can be amazing to observe and to experience this happening.

The introductory EFT workshop is Level 1 (for beginners or to fill in gaps if self-taught).
This (one-page) A4 document gives DETAILS about the next one-day introductory Level 1 EFT workshop,
including description, date, times, cost and venue. It gets updated from time to time when the date(s) and/or venue(s) are changed.

of personal growth or emotional healing, including Deepak Chopra, Bruce Lipton, Donna Eden, and others.

"What actually is EFT?" "Why does it work?" and "Where's the proof?" There's a LOT more to EFT than just the tapping!
There are several options available for learning EFT. There are three main EFT workshops (Levels 1 to 3) that teach EFT techniques and skills from beginner to user and then (for some) on to advanced and professional. The Levels 1 and 2 workshops are recommended for everyone and anyone who wants to learn EFT (including those who will only be self-applying it).

(1) The one-day Level 1 EFT workshop ($175) teaches the fundamentals of EFT and the full EFT tapping technique plus how to use it (and more). It is a sound starting point as the tapping technique is not complicated and it includes learning to self-apply EFT.
(2) The two-day Level 2 EFT workshop ($350) introduces special-purpose EFT techniques and some vital EFT skills that are very useful, and how to work with long-term or complex issues.
Comment: The above two workshops introduce and thoroughly explore the foundational skills of EFT. Level 2 is very useful for those who will be applying EFT with others and/or self-applying EFT as they will have a comprehensive and useful EFT "tool kit". ALL of the more advanced or professional applications of EFT are built on and depend on the foundational Level 2 training skills.
Note: There are EFT Practice Sessions for those who have completed Levels 2 or 3 and are serious about developing their skills further (even if only going to self-apply it). EFT is essentially "tools for the job" and practice is necessary which (gradually) makes a huge positive difference.
(3)The three-day Level 3 EFT workshop ($450) is suitable for those who are keen to take their EFT skills to a higher level, including those who are mainly serious about their own personal growth. However, it requires a thorough understanding of and familiarity with the Level 2 material to build on. The Level 3 workshop is essential for those who will be using EFT professionally or semi-professionally.
Option: There is also an introduction to the one-day the Basics of Counselling workshop ($175) to provide those using EFT with a deeper understanding of what counselling is and how to establish, build, connect with and maintain functional relationships with people/clients. Being only an introduction, there are no certification. Learning these counselling basics can be very useful when applying EFT with someone and it can be useful in life generally (when someone needs some nurturing or personal assistance).
For those who want to become certified professional EFT Practitioners, there are extensive and thorough certification programs for both Level 2 and Level 3.
There are also some specific-purpose advanced EFT workshops (and all of them require having attended the Level 2 workshop as a minimum pre-requisite).
International research: Studies have been done that repeatedly show the effectiveness of EFT. Research on acupoint stimulation (which are mostly applications of EFT) has been carried out in seven countries with over fifty studies published so far and results have been published in peer-reviewed journals. On this web site, the abbreviation "EP" refers to Energy Psychology and EFT is the most successfully studied of the "energy techniques" that come under this general heading.
Evidence of effectiveness: In November 2012, the American Psychological Association (APA) published a summation of numerous validated studies showing the effectiveness of the Emotional Freedom Techniques. This was a significant and giant step towards becoming fully accepted in the mainstream. It has taken years to get to this point and there's lots more to be done (and is being done).
EFT and War Veterans: In February 2013, the prestigious Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, the oldest peer-reviewed psychiatry journal in North America, published an extensive study on the use of EFT with War Veterans (all of whom had PTSD). The results were outstanding. EFT is phenomenally effective with painful memories and traumas.
The Effect of EFT on Stress Biochemistry: The Journal of Nervous & Mental Disease also published a study that examined the changes in cortisol levels (which relate to degrees of stress) and psychological distress symptoms of 83 nonclinical subjects. Subjects were randomly assigned to three groups and EFT was used with one of the groups. Salivary cortisol assays were performed immediately before and 30 minutes afterwards. The EFT group experienced a significant decrease in cortisol level and the decrease mirrored the observed improvement in psychological distress.
